Scam artists have found another way to target customers of a Tri-Cities credit union.
Two weeks ago, News Channel 11 told you about a scam targeting Happy Valley Credit Union Customers.
That scam involved e-mail and text messages.
Now News Channel 11 has learned that crooks are using an automated phone call to try to steal account information.
The recorded message says, ""Hello. Welcome to Happy Valley Credit Union. For your security we deactivated your card.
To re-activate it, please press one."
The recording will then ask for your account information.
The phone calls are not from Happy Valley Credit Union. In fact, the Carter County Sheriff's Office has traced the calls to Wisconsin.
Authorities advise you to never give person account information over the phone.
I recieved an e-mail supposable from Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank. I don't have an account with this bank. Can't the person be traced by the server? My son (37) answered it. It's a pretty good responce. If others would respond in the same way, the person doing the scam would realize that we arn't that stupid. If you would like to see the e-mail and the responce, just contact me.

I have received a text message on my cell phone and two calls at my home like the ones described. One was for Elizabethton Federal, the other was for Happy Valley Credit Union. Surely someone can trace the source of these scams. I would hate to see someone lose their life's savings.

I received three today form Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank. I don't even have an account with them. They were wanting all personal information or the account would be closed. And said that they were opening a Federal Investigation into the matter. Kind of hard to when I don't have an account with them.

we got a text on 2 cell phones with 2 different numbers, one was sent to a 12 yr old saying the same thing only it was from Elizabethton Federal Bank. We gave up no info but our daughter came to us asking if she should respond which she was told no. Just thought you might wanna know not only are they using credit unions but also local banks and are also targeting kids phones.
