If Washington County, Tennessee, commissioners approve every county department's proposed budget, property taxes would increase by another 36 cents. Washington County Budget Committee members wrapped up budget hearings this morning.
Commissioners have already committed to raising taxes by 10 cents thanks to the failure of a wheel tax referendum. Although commissioners have not yet made a decision about the rest of their budget, as it stands today, department heads are requesting an additional 26 cents, about 15 cents for schools and 11 more for the county's general fund.
The Washington County Budget Committee will discuss these requests further at a meeting Thursday.
