HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Balthis Propels Pound To Win

COEBURN, Va. – Samantha Balthis scored 17 points to guide the Pound Wildcats to a 52-42 victory over the Coeburn Blue Knights on Thursday night in a non-district girls basketball game.
Alex Wyatt led Coeburn with 13 points.

Council 58, Patrick Henry 43
Stephanie Cornett had 18 points and five steals as Council collected a win over Patrick Henry in the CONSOL Energy/CNX Gas Coalfield Clash tournament.
Haley Arrington and Katie Thomas combined for 29 points for Council, while Dakota Bostic finished with nine points, 10 rebounds and four steals.
Heather Thomas and Cadence Wilmont scored 10 points apiece for Patrick Henry. 

Honaker 51, Lebanon 24
Sophomore Rachel Artrip scored 19 points and Paige Tiller added 16 as the Tigers stopped Lebanon.
Allie Smith paced Lebanon in scoring with 11.

Rural Retreat 50, Grayson Co. 34
Five-foot-10 senior Charlotte Reasor supplied 26 points and 13 rebounds as Rural Retreat stopped non-district foe Grayson County.
Rural Retreat (1-1) pulled away with a 19-6 spurt in the fourth quarter.

Council 59 Grundy 24
In a game played Wednesday night, Council scored the first 19 points en route to a win over their Buchanan County rival.
Stephanie Cornett led Council with 16 points, 12 rebounds and four steals, while Haley Arrington added 12 points and six assists.
Ashley Riley scored six points for Grundy, which was handicapped by 27 turnovers.

PREP BOYS
Council 64, Grundy 45
Shane Presley scored 18 points as Council won a non-district game Wednesday.
Otto Fletcher added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Council. Cody Justus (13 points) and Jon Kelly (10) led Grundy in scoring.
