As Barack Obama was wrapping up his speech in Bristol, veteran NBC news reporter Andrea Mitchell was engaging in the most egregious sort of stereotyping.
In an appearance on “MSNBC Live,” Mitchell said of Obama’s Bristol visit: “Interesting images today. Barack Obama, Mark Warner, in Southwest Virginia. This is real [chuckle] redneck ... sort of ... uhm ... bordering on Appalachia ... country. This is not the Northern Virginia ... uh ... you know ... high-tech corridor. And these are voters that he would not logically ... be ... you know, gravitating to. This is the beginning of a pivot.”
To correct Mitchell, Bristol doesn’t border “Appalachia ... country.” It is part of the Appalachian Mountain region. While the region faces challenges, it doesn’t deserve to be the butt of jokes.
Perhaps Mitchell should come visit so that she could experience the region’s beauty and the kindness of its people firsthand. We’re certain she would discover that the derogatory regional stereotype that she repeated on air simply isn’t true.
Her remarks are of the same ilk as Vice President Dick Cheney’s unfortunate joke about inbred West Virginians – for which he later apologized.
Mocking Appalachia is no different than making racial jokes or ethnic slurs. It isn’t acceptable or professional.
Mitchell should be reprimanded by her bosses. A sincere, public apology also is in order.

ok so lets see; she is supposed to be an unbiased journalist.  RIGHT.  The apology falls on deaf ears.  Andrea is only one of many biased “journalists” that NBC employs. Her “reporting” is a joke.  The sad part is that a lot of Americans have been taken in by the liberal left’s perspective.  Her anti American views, I don’t believe, are espoused by most local residents.  Thank God!  Mr. Obama’s record is the most liberal in the Senate and stands for most everything I don’t personally believe. If you believe that the federal Government should be the primary caretaker of the populus then he’s your guy.  If you believe that the Govt is way too large and is too intrusive in most everything then John McCain is the only choice.  WISE UP.

Its time that SWVa stand up and be heard. I’m so tired of top officials making comments and directing them at SWVa. The comment made by A Mitchell was 100% uncalled for. I’m not sitting back and taking this lightly. I intend to send an email to MSNBC and let it be known how offensive her comment is. As a proud SWVa resident its time to be heard. I challange you to do the same. If you are proud where you live then join me and let our voices be heard.

Funny, Obama said much the same thing about the entire white working class.

But what is so shocking here? This is the general view of the leftist’ elite in this country, that Obama represents.
