Johnston Memorial Hospital has gotten the go-ahead to build a new hospital.
The Virginia State Health Commissioner recently approved the Abingdon hospital’s request for a certificate of public need.
In November, JMH officials announced plans to build a state-of-the-art replacement hospital.
The new facility will be built on Johnston Meadows, a 62 acre tract of land owned by JMH, located on Lee Highway between exits 19 and 22 of Interstate 81.
This is the same property where the newly constructed JMH Cancer Center is located.
The hospital plans to break ground in September.
