They were treated to story time with Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen.  The Governor read “ The Little Engine That Could” and “ Mrs. Wishy Washy” to kids at the Washington County / Gray Library.

His visit celebrated Imagination Library Week.

Singer Dolly Parton started the Imagination Library Program in 1996 in her hometown of Sevierville, Tennessee.  Now, the program reaches children in 43 states, The District of Columbia, and parts of Canada.

You can register your child at birth, and from birth to age 5, your little one will get a book in the mail every month.

Participating communities and the state split the cost, which is about $30 per year per child.

Governor Bredesen told Your Tri-Cities News Source it’s a small price to pay to get kids interested in reading.
