The Birthplace of Country Music Association is one of five arts programs in Bristol, Tenn., that will benefit from a series of grants announced by the Tennessee Arts Commission.
The organization will receive a $22,000 grant for operating support and a $7,200 grant for Web site development, according to a news release from the arts commission.
“We appreciate the support [from the commission] and it helps us carry out our mission,” BCMA Executive Director Bill Hartley said, adding that the two grants amount to about 10 percent of his organization’s total operating budget.
A total of $7.2 million worth of grants were given out to 850 programs across the state.
The other Bristol arts programs that are set to receive a grant this year are:
* Theatre Bristol will receive $9,000 to pay for some operating expenses.
* The Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion will receive $6,750 to pay for its country mural stage from Sept. 19-21.
* The Arts Alliance Mountain Empire will receive $6,000 to pay for its A! Magazine for the Arts.
* The Bristol Ballet Company will receive $5,140 for operating expenses.
