A fight involving several adults forced police to clear out a Funfest event intended for preschool aged children Friday afternoon.

Two women began fighting near the stage where 1 to 4-years-old children were gathered to catch Mardis Gras style beads being tossed from the stage. Witnesses say the altercation was sparked after one woman accused a second woman of pushing her child in order to get closer to the stage.

Children and parents scattered while the two women wrestled on the pavement. Funfest organizers called for police over the loudspeakers, who responded within moments.

In the minutes after the fight, authorities cleared the area around the stage and began helping separated children find their parents.

One of the women involved in the fight was attended to by emergency officials at the scene but was not taken to the hospital. Lt. Bob Abernathy of the Kingsport Police said the fight resulted in no serious injuries.

“We reviewed the [tricities.com] tapes and we couldn’t see who started the fight. We’ll give them back the report and give the information to the two people that were involved and it will be up to them to get the warrants for assault themselves,” Abernathy said.

I think this is nuts! Mom’s need to act like Mothers, not children, be the adult, not the child, you can’t teach your child manners when you have none of your own!!! Think about it ladies. The beads were for the children, NOT THE ADULTS!@

I am SO embarrassed that grown adults are acting like this.  C’mon - GROW UP!  Very sad.  I hope the mothers sure are embarrassed - they need to be.

We never really outgrow our playground behavior, do we?  I’ll bet at least one of those moms was a school bully when she was young.

That’s some bad video. If the camera was right there why didn’t we see who was fighting? I didn’t even see hair pulled or punches or anything good like that. I think we need a rematch. Could we get those women to come back out of SW Virginia another round?

So the police are going to let the women that were fighting decide if they press charges against one another? Our children did not get to make the decision if they wanted to see the fighting, so why should they decide? There is something really wrong with that! These two idiots were fighting in front of little kids over BEADS….disorderly conduct…child endagerment…child neglect(for not being there with their kids)...the list could go on and on…so why aren’t their charges going on and on? Maybe this is exactly why people act the way they do…thers’s not any punishment…what are we saying to the kids…

I agree, children are most definitely a reflection of their parents. Poor kids. How embarrassing! This is the one week of the year that Kingsport can come together as a community and then people come out and act like idiots. Way to totally take the Fun out of Fun Fest and mis-represent Kingsport! And at the first event! Ridiculous. These parents should be ashamed and not show their face at anymore events.

If she pushed the child MOM should have called for an officer and had the woman arrested. that is assult on a minor child.
