An inmate at United States Penitentiary Lee in Jonesville, Va., was killed Tuesday, and the federal prison remains on lockdown Wednesday, officials said.
Quentin Corniel, who reported to USP Lee on May 20, was serving a 77-month sentence for the charge of being a felon in possession of ammunition. He was scheduled to be released on Aug. 26, 2009.
In a short news release issued Wednesday morning, prison spokesman Todd Sloop said at 10:21 a.m. Tuesday, “an incident occurred involving two inmates.” Staff immediately separated the inmates, and Corniel was taken to Lee Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead 90 minutes later.
“The cause of death has not been determined, an autopsy has been ordered and next of kin have been notified,” the release states. “The Federal Bureau of Prisons continues to investigate the incident and the FBI have been notified. The institution is currently on lockdown status and there were no staff injured during the incident.”

Its not the prison systems falt that this man was put into prison. My x was charged with being a felon and posessing a hand gun. He got there by the grace of his MOther because she beailed him out all the time. Well he is serving a two and a half year sentence.

Owning ammo becomes a capital offense?
Sad.
What was the original felony for? If it was violent then we have a case of what goes around comes around. If it wasn’t, we have another case of improperly segregated prisoners which places the responsibility squarely on the prison system.
