A product, manufactured by Ethos Environmental in San Diego, California, is said to reduce emissions while increasing your gas mileage.
It’s a clear formula reportedly made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen esters that acts as a lubricant both in your engine and in your fuel tank.
News Channel 11 put Ethos Fuel Reformulator to the test. While the results were somewhat inconclusive, at least one of our testers, David Clark, indicates he will continue use in hopes of better mile per gallon results from his Mini Cooper.
“Me like anybody would like to find some cure out there to get better gas mileage. Who wouldn’t want that?,“ he said.
Clark said the fact that his car only saw a slightly better mile per gallon result from the first-time use of Ethos FR over the last trip where he calculated his gas mileage, is probably because he hadn’t given it enough time to prove itself.

Check out David’s detailed gas mileage diary under RELATED LINKS over the years, including after using Ethos FR. This will be updated periodically as he continues use of the product.
Check David’s math.
According to David, his average MPG from August 2006 to the time we filled up before the product testing was 31.75846. That includes 68 fill-ups in the time he’s kept records.
On the tank of gas he purchased on July 18th, 2008, David calculated he traveled 43 miles and got 24.34881 miles per gallon.
David filled-up again on July 21, 2008 and then traveled 83 miles. (This was the fill-up including the Ethos Fuel Reformulator.) According to his calculations, he got 30.40293 miles per gallon.
He calculated a standard deviation range from 2.648798 to 5.297596. That means, for there to be any significance to the statistics of his test study using Ethos FR, he’d have to see a lower miles per gallon of at least 29.109662 gallons or an upper miles per gallon of 34.407 miles per gallon. His finding fell in between at 30.40293. He determined after using standard deviation and finding upper and lower results, that the test did not show a significant result.
That’s why he’ll continue to test it.
But, is the product worth it?
Check David’s math again.
We found a 32 oz. Bottle for $40.00 online.
You are recommended to use 1 oz. Per 10 gallons of gas. David has a 12 gallon tank.
He can get 26.666 fill-ups out of one bottle of Ethos FR.
He stimates it will cost him $1.53 per fill-up. And, the average cost of gas since May 30th, using numbers on his spread sheet, is $4.169.
He’s determined he will only have to get .33 more miles per gallon make purchasing and using Ethos FR worth it to him.
