Unicoi County Sheriff’s deputies arrested an Elizabethton man for rape of a child. Scott Lee Honeycutt confessed to raping a five-year old girl and indicated there may be more victims.
Of course, investigators say any single incident of sexual abuse or rape of a child is serious, but this one they described as heinous, occurring numerous times and over a long period. The latest incident they say was just Sunday.
A call to a Unicoi County case worker over the weekend revealed that a 26-year old man had access to a young child he is accused of molesting for a long time.
“This information developed from her investigation into what was alleged to have occurred over the weekend,” said Investigator Ken Potter, Unicoi County Sheriff’s Department.
Scott Lee Honeycutt is charged with 30 counts of child rape. Investigators say Honeycutt confessed.
“In his statement to us, he said he had started a relationship with this girl when she was five which was fondling and doing other sexual things to her,” said Potter.
Investigators say he looked for his victims within his family and that they don’t believe he looked anywhere else like schools, playgrounds, or malls, but investigators believe it may have been a matter of time.
“If this hadn’t been stopped when it did, it would have been gotten to get worse,” said Potter.
The relationship between the Honeycutt and alleged victim doesn’t surprise Children’s Advocacy Center Executive Director Kathy Roark.
“About 96 plus percent of the alleged offenders were parents, parent’s relative, or someone the child knew, so that a very common thing,” said Roark.
And neither does the victim’s age.
“Children under age 6 are more likely to be sexually abused,” said Roark.
Investigators say Honeycutt would stay with family members who had children.
“If the area was proper for him and he thought he can do it and get away with it, then he done it,” said Potter.
A method professionals like Roark call grooming.
“It’s sort of setting the child up and it goes one step, one step, one step further and further,” said Roark.
Investigators say the victim is doing well. Child abuse experts say children can recover from abuse if they have a supportive caregiver who believes them and if they seek counseling.
Investigators say they expect to file additional charges. They say Honeycutt revealed three more victims ranging from ages three to eight.
Honeycutt remains behind bars on a $110,000 bond.

I have two daughters, the oldest is 4. It makes me sick thinking of someone touching my girls, and other children as well. My thoughts an prayers really go out to those who has been through this and to their parents too. I would not know what I would do if this happen to my children. Man its so sad!!! And yes people who do this to helpless children should be put through the worst punishment. In ways it can be worse than murder, they are traumatized for the rest of their lives. I don’t even like thinking of this!!!

I am an adult survivor of child sexual abuse from a family member starting at a very young age up until age 9. Let me tell you that even now after 35 years of councelling and love from good people. A person never gets over this type of child hood trauma. These sick individuales do not get fixed and returned back into their families they stay sick and just learn different ways of hidding their sickness not to get caught. I agree to castrate them or allow someone 5 times their size to do to them what they did to their victoms.

Sweet1, May God bless your daughter as she deals with this. She truly is a survivor, as is anyone who has been molested/raped. I hope the “teacher” was punished and fired. She doesn’t need to be anywhere near children. Take care.

I promise you I wouldn’t need five minutes if I had a gun. If I wanted to do slow torture, then give me five, then I’d help Sassy stoke the fire.

My daughter was molested at the age of 8 by her FEMALE 3rd grade teacher (if you’re reading this you know who you are). If people think for one minute this doesn’t affect a child, think again. The effects are HORRIBLE!!!!!!What sickens me is people getting 20 years for burglary and (if the victim is lucky), a child molester getting a couple of years. YOU tell ME what is wrong with the justice system. Needless to say justice was never served for my daughter. But by the Grace of God she is a SURVIVOR, and that is something that the perp will never take away from her. I do know one thing, there is no greater justice system than the Man Above. There will come a day of reckoning for everyone.

Give the mom back her gun and five minutes with the man. Then call it Justice.

I am a survivor of rape and molestation. I can truly feel for this child and others who have been there. I hope this bottom feeder gets his just dues in the courts. BTW, inmates in the prisons around here don’t care much for child predators. I know this because my son is incarcerated in VA and he said it doesn’t go well for perverts in prison. They have to be kept in solitary. Let’s hope that another inmate finds a way.

I would like to be the one in charge of punishing child molesters/rapists. I would start by simply building a fire and keeping it flaming while I put a huge round steel pole in it, when the pole becomes white hot I would then ram it up the offenders butt and out through the top of his head.
