Lt. Steve McVey was working a traffic stop along Mountain City Road in Damascus around 9:00 p.m. Thursday.  Billy Eugene Thomas hit the officer as he drove past, Washington County Virginia Sheriffs said.

Thomas had been drinking, but his blood alcohol content was below the legal limit, police said.

McVey suffered minor injuries.  He was treated and released from an area hospital.

Police said Thomas, 38, was driving on a revoked license.  They charged him with a hit and run, reckless driving, failure to move over, and driving on a revoked license.  The magistrate issued a $5,000 bond, and police transported Thomas to The Abingdon Regional Jail.

Thomas posted bond immediately.

Glad Thomas is in jail.
We definitely need to keep drinking drivers off the roads.  ANY drinking when driving should be illegal!
Maybe the “legal-limit” should be lowered!!!
