Two Tri-Cities men are accused of kidnapping a child early this morning.
Johnson City police say they received a disturbance call from a home on East Main Street early Sunday morning.
They later discovered that Michael Bates and his brother, Christopher Bates, took a child from the home without the mother’s consent.
The mother was reportedly assaulted by Michael Bates during the incident.
The Bates brothers were found a short time later and the child was returned to the mother.
Both men are charged with kidnapping and Michael Bates was also charged with domestic assault.
They are being held in the Washington County Detention Center and are scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

I sure hope these guys didnt get a kidnapping charge on them for something that may be “family related”?  I would like to see a follow up as well.

Come on Guys, could the reporter of this story not ask a couple of very important questions directly related to the artical? like for example, What reason if any did the suspects give for kidnapping this child? Were either of the suspects related to the mother or child? The story reported was incomplete and leaves your readers puzzled about the cause. A follow-up should be in order, didn’t read one in todays news.

has anyone said that one of these guys is the father of the child? i dont think this is a bust in a grab like the media is making it out to be. dommestic violence? maybe it was taking out of a hostel enviroment until things cooled down? but the police didnt see it that way?
