Bluefield, Va., Man Attacked With Ax Handle

A Bluefield, Va., man remains hospitalized in stable condition after being attacked with an axe handle Tuesday night.

After 10 p.m. Tuesday, Tazewell County Sheriff’s deputies responding to a 911 call and found 36-year-old Freddie Baldwin at his Mud Fork area home with cuts and bruises on his face and head, according to a report.

Witnesses told officers that Robert Thomas Jones, 33, of Bluefield, attacked Baldwin following an argument. Jones, who had left Baldwin’s house following the attack, was later arrested at another residence in the Mud Fork area.

Jones was charged with malicious wounding and was being held without bail at the Southwest Regional Jail in Tazewell, Va.

Baldwin was airlifted by helicopter to Johnson City Medical Center.
