Several incidents of impersonators soliciting money have been reported in the Richlands, Va., area recently, according to a news release.
Tazewell County, Va., Sheriff’s detectives said several incidents have been reported in which a person pretending to represent a local youth sports organization, including baseball, football and basketball, has been approaching residents asking for donations.
The scam has been mostly reported in the western part of the county and in the Richlands area, noted the release.
Detectives from both the Richlands Police Department and the Tazewell County Sheriff’s office said anyone approached by someone soliciting money should ask for identification, and they warned that most youth sports organizations do not participate in fundraising efforts that involve a lone person requesting funds.
If you believe you have been the victim of such a scam, both departments advise you contact them with information by calling (276) 988-5966 or (276) 964-9134.
