Carter County, Tennessee Deputy Stephanie Simpson was listed in serious condition at Johnson City Medical Center on Tuesday. Authorities said she was shot in the face while responding to a property dispute between neighbors on Riggs Road late Saturday afternoon. Officials said the suspect, Phil Hyder, was later shot and killed by deputies.
Deputy Simpson’s K-9 Max, was also injured during the shooting. He took a bullet in the right ear and also had pieces of glass and metal in his left side.
“His attitude is great, he misses Stephanie, but he’s eating good, he’s used to being around me and he’s a great dog, he really is,“ said Deputy Dave Ryan, Carter County Sheriff’s Department.
K-9 max is only one of two k-9’s with the carter county sheriff’s department. Max was walking around the Sheriff’s department on Tuesday and Ryan said Max will be just fine.
