Money makes the world go round... and keeps the Tri-Cities running.

Last year Bristol, Johnson City, and Kingsport spent a combined 147 million tax dollars on city employee salaries.

Our news partner... The Bristol Herald Courier... Spent the past year gathering and compiling salary information for workers in every town... city... county... and school system in our region... 65 jurisdictions in all.

Under state freedom of information acts, public employee salaries are public record and anyone can request them at any time.

Your Tri-Cities News source searched through the documents compiled by our partner... and found Kingsport’s city manager made at least 17-thousand dollars more than his counterparts in Johnson City and Bristol last year.

Kingsport's and Bristol’s fire chiefs made at least 13-thousand dollars more than Johnson City’s fire chief.

Since education and teacher pay continue to be a hot issue... News Channel 11's Nate Morabito dug through the salary data and discovered what teachers across our area are making.
