Art Studio Schedule
July 5 & 6 - What inspires you?  Learn about our Artist of the Month, Frida Kahlo, and the inspiration behind her paintings.
July 12 & 13 - Master your shading skills as we sketch crumply paper bags.
July 19 & 20 - Celebrate the birthdays of Rembrandt and Degas as we paint self portraits.
July 26 & 27 - Catch a jar full of creepy crawlies as we create bugs from our own fingerprints!

Special Events
All Month Long - Under Construction Exhibit
Families can work together to operate a mechanical crane, see if a structure they build can withstand a simulated earthquake, and build a 7-foot foam arch. Test aerodynamic properties of differently-shaped vehicles with the wind tunnel. Use an innovative computer software program to assemble a bicycle. Experience a manufacturing simulation, using planning, coordination and timing as they assemble toy cars. Check out building materials used around the world, try on traditional outfits from other cultures, and create rhythms from different lands.

Friday, July 4th - Museum Closed for Independence Day

Saturday & Sunday, July 12 & 13 - Peanut Science
Celebrate the work of a great African American scientist, George Washington Carver, and check out the power of the peanut in the Eastman Discovery Lab. Allergy Warning: Real peanuts will be used in the lab.

Saturday & Sunday, July 19 & 20 - Stick Out Your Tongue Day
Can you roll your tongue? Not everyone can.  Rolling your tongue is a genetic trait passed from parent to child.  Celebrate “Stick Out Your Tongue Day” and investigate genetics and brain power in the Eastman Discovery Lab.

Saturday, July 26, 11:00-2:00 - Fingerprint Fun
Your fingerprint is as special as you are.  Learn about the history of fingerprint IDs and check out the latest technology with the Johnson City Police Department’s computer print scanning technology. 

Monday, July 28, 9:00 - Hands On! Summer Golf Classic
Tee off for the 2nd Annual Hands On! Summer Golf Classic at the Johnson City Country Club at 9:00 am, Monday, July 28th.  Breakfast will be provided by Hardee’s with lunch by OJ Gardner’s Honey Hotdogs.  Teams will compete in the Men’s or Women’s flight.  Additional contests and hole-in-one prizes will be offered.  To register or for sponsorship or other information, please contact Kim Hodge at (423) 434-HAND ext. 106 or e-mail or visit
