Second Chance will rock the two Virginias for a third time this summer.
During its recessed meeting Feb. 20 the board of supervisors approved a $50,000 grant to the Second Chance Learning Center to assist with the project. The board met in executive session and jointly with the Bluefield town council to discuss the project.
After emerging from executive session the supervisors made the $50,000 award with the stipulation that $45,000 was to be repaid. Bluefield’s town council adjourned without taking any action.
Erik Robinson, director of Second Chance said the money would enable him to book the acts for the concert which will be held in June at Mitchell Stadium. He said once sponsorships are obtained the county’s loan will be repaid.
Robinson said the center lost money on the concert last summer because a severe storm passed through the area forcing Mitchell Stadium to be evacuated and the event rescheduled. The concert is one of the primary sources of support toe center and also provides grants to more than 30 non profit groups in the area.
Robinson said he will move forward with plans for the concert and announce the lineup and ticket sales in the near future.
