Randy Phillip Arnold

Randy Phillip Arnold, age 51 of Clarkston, Mich., formerly of Richlands, Va., passed away Thurs., March 19, 2009 in Pontiac, Mich. Born Sept. 19, 1957 in Richlands, Va., he was the son of the late Dewey L. and Virginia Mabel Cantrell Arnold.

He was retired from General Motors. He loved to hunt and fish.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jim, and Bessie Arnold, and his maternal grandparents, George and Margie Cantrell.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Arnold of Clarkston, Mich.; his sons, Renzo Chavez and wife, Jillian, and Alonso Chavez, all of Keego Harbor, Mich.; one brother, Dwayne L. Arnold of Leonard, Mich.; one sister, Dinah Arnold of Tazewell, Va.; several nephews and nieces; special family friends, Joe Papi family and a host of other loving family members.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Fri., March 27, 2009 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va., with Rev. Troy Lester, Rev. Andrew Blankenship and Rev. Jack Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Ferrell Cemetery at Horn Mountain, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thurs., March 26, at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Va.

David Grayson Bradley

BRADLEY, David Grayson, 54, of Richmond, passed away Sun., March 22, 2009. He was a son of the late Virginia Lockhart Bradley and William R. Bradley, and grandson of the late Maude and Clarence Lockhart of Tazewell, Va. and Pete and Marge Bradley of Bluefield, W.Va. He is survived by his stepmother, Mary Lou Roach Bradley; sisters and brothers, Jacquetta Simmons and husband, Willie, Gail Britt and husband, Ed, Scott Bradley, Joni Humphries and husband, Roy, and William R. Bradley Jr. and wife, Kim; nieces and nephews, Chip Simmons, Ginny Britt, Rachel Hagewood, Stephen and Lauren Bradley, Alex and Nicholas Humphries, Megan Bradley, Bridgette and Philip Harrison; and several aunts and uncles, among them Nancy Musick and Jay Lockhart. David was preceded in death by a niece, Sonya Gray Simmons. He had worked as a computer programmer for United Way of Richmond, Reynolds Metals, and Virginia Blood Services. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Wed., March 25, at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place at Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, Va. at a later date.

Marie M. Brown Jackson

Mrs. Marie M. Brown Jackson, age 80, of Richlands, Va., passed away Thurs., March 19, 2009 at her home following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Tazewell County and was the daughter of the late Jay and Irma Brown Horn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey Dolphis Brown; her second husband, Jim Jackson; one son, Jimmy Dale Brown; and sister, Lois Vandyke Hess; and one brother, Chester Horn.

Survivors are: five daughters: Carol Johnston of Murrells Inlet, S.C., Sandra Rife and husband, Larry, of Pounding Mill, Va., Gail Shelton of Dallas, N.C., Lisa Crouse and husband, Larry, of Tazewell, Va., Angela Tucker and husband, Jerry, of Mt. Pleasant, N.C.; three sisters: Evelyn Horne of Baptist Valley, Va., Lillie McGraw of Sanford, Fla., Maxine Debord of Tazewell, Va.; one brother: Roger Horn of Winfield, Pa.; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren also survive. Special Friends: Paula Slate, Staff of Total Home Hospice, Nancy Shelton, and Beth Griffith.

Funeral services for Mrs. Marie M. Brown Jackson were conducted Sat., March 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Adam Frye officiating. Interment followed at the Brown Mt. Cemetery near Jewell Ridge, Va. Pallbearers were: Jeff Horn, Perry Horn, Ronnie Shinault, H.G. Shelton, Randy Horne, and John Debord. Honorary pallbearers were: Larry Rife, Larry Crouse, Jerry Tucker, Ronnie Shinault, Sr., Gary Shelton, and Condle Whitt. Wilma “Cookie” Jackson

Wilma “Cookie” Jackson, age 61 of Jewell Ridge, Va., passed away on Mon., March 16, 2009 at a local Richlands hospital following a brief illness.

She was born in Cucumber, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Edward Watkins and Beatrice Rudy Watkins Crigger. She was a loving wife and mother who took on the fulltime responsibility of being a homemaker. She had lived most of her life in the Richlands, Jewell Ridge area. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Billy Thomas Poseno; one daughter, Heather Lynn Jackson; one sister, Wanda Harless; one brother, Charles Watkins; and a stepfather, Rufus Crigger.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are: husband, David Keith Jackson of Jewell Ridge, Va.; daughters: Michelle Dales and husband, Benny, of Jewell Ridge, Va., Crystal Lowe and husband, Brian, of Jewell Ridge, Va.; sons: Michael Harless of Spanishburg, W.Va., Shaun Poseno and wife, Nicki, of Jewell Ridge, Va., David Jackson II and wife, Rebecca, of Guam, Heath Jackson and wife, Tara, of Richlands, Va., Brandon Jackson of Richlands, Va., Travis and Andrew Jackson of the home; brothers: Jack Watkins of Pennsylvania, Paul Watkins of Montcalm, W.Va., Tony Crigger of Princeton, W.Va. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Memorial services for Wilma “Cookie” Jackson were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thurs., March 19, 2009 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Jerry Casey officiating. Burial was private. Visitation began at 12:00 p.m. on Thurs. up until time of service at 2:00 pm.

Woodrow Wilson McGuire

Mr. Woodrow Wilson McGuire, age 91, of Bandy, Va., passed away Thurs., March 19, 2009 while surrounded by his loving family at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Bandy, Va., and was the son of the late Charles Finley and Flora Ann Harrison McGuire, both former Tazewell County natives. Woodrow unselfishly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II as he bravely fought in the campaign of The Rhineland, for his single acts of merit or meritorious service he was awarded the Bronze Star and he was also awarded the Purple Heart for wounds he received during battle. He was of the Protestant faith and was a lifetime resident of the area and worked as a rural mail carrier in the Bandy area for many years before retiring.

He is survived by: his loving wife, Bettie Mae Barnett McGuire of Bandy, Va.; his daughter, Leonora Ray Miller of Bandy, Va.; his sister, Lois V. Barnett of Bandy, Va.; his grandsons: Gregory Ray and wife, Melissa, and Timothy Ray.

Funeral services for Woodrow Wilson McGuire were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sun., March 22, 2009 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Wayne Mullins officiating. Interment followed at the Bandy Cemetery in Whittaker Ridge, Va. Serving as pallbearers were Mike Wingo, Johnny Wingo, Trampas Wingo, Ben Wingo, Vince LaForce and Robert Harrison. A military gravesite service was conducted by the members of the V.F.W. Casey-Shortt Post # 9640.

Friends called Sat. evening from 6-9 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home.

Virginia Demory McReynolds

Virginia Demory McReynolds, age 65 of North Tazewell, Va., died Wed., March 18, 2009 at Clinch Valley Medical Center at Richlands, Va. Born Oct. 26, 1943 in Frederick, Md., she was a daughter of Floyd Demory of Taylorstown, Va., and the late Regina Stine Demory. Mrs. McReynolds retired from the United States Food and Drug Administration.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband of 41 years, Kenneth McReynolds; three children, Regina Johnson and husband, Edward, of Winchester, Va., Kenneth McReynolds, Jr. and fiancée, Cara Trittipoe, of Stephens City, Va., and Denise Osterhoudt and husband, Chad, of Leesburg, Va.; three grandchildren, Garrett Osterhoudt of Leesburg, Va., Deanna McReynolds of Stephens City, Va., Jay McReynolds of Duluth, Ga.; one brother, Wayne Demory of Leesburg, Va.; three sisters, Sherry Stanford of Athens, Ala., Darlene Rogers of Fort Smith, Ark., and Joyce Nichols of Shepherdstown, W.Va.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Mon., March 23, 2009 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va., with Pastor Ronald Hager officiating. Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Pallbearers were Kenneth McReynolds, Jr., Chad Osterhoudt, Garrett Osterhoudt, Eddie Johnson, Paul McReynolds, and Charles Lively.

The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Jesse Jon Fredrick Meiers

Jesse Jon Fredrick Meiers, age 59 of Rupert, W.Va., passed away Sat., March 14, 2009 at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte, W.Va., following an extended illness.

He was born in Elkhart, Ind. and was the son of the late Jesse and Agnes Coop Meiers. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved to be on the open road, driving into the sunsets, and spent 34 years driving for Continental Express in Little Rock, Ark. He was of the Baptist faith and he had lived for 52 years in Baraboo, Wis., and moved to Rupert, W.Va., seven years ago.

Those who remain are: His loving wife of 25 years, Tommie Sue Meiers of Rupert, W.Va.; his son, Jeffery Meiers and wife, Amy, of Beloit, Wis.; his brother, Mark Meiers of Garden Grove, Calif.; grandchildren, Tyler Meiers, Mackayln Meiers and Keegan Meiers. He is survived by a host of family and friends and he will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Funeral services for Jesse Meiers were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wed., March 18, 2009 at the Clinch Valley Memorial Mausoleum in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Jim Lutzenburger officiating. Entombment followed at the cemetery. Friends and family served as pallbearers. A visitation began at 12:00 noon at the Mausoleum.

Robert Joe Mitchell

Mr. Robert Joe Mitchell, age 45, died March 7, 2009. Mr. Mitchell was born in 1963 son of the late James W. Mitchell and Patsy Mitchell. He was preceded in death by a brother, Randall Mitchell. Survivors include stepfather, Alfred Russel; two sisters, Brenda Helbert and her husband, Doug, of Rome and Patsy Jones-Mitchell; five brothers, Darrel, James, Cecil, Keith and Tommy; daughters, Shauna, Emily, Katelan, Anna, Kinze and son Tony.

Graveside services will be held April 4, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in Bandy, Va., with Rev. Bruce Mitchell officiating.

The Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings and Miller Funeral Home had charge of arrangements for Mr. Robert Joe Mitchell.

Eunice Marilyn Owens

Eunice Marilyn Owens, age 84, of Doran, Va., passed away Tues., March 17, 2009 at her home following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Buchanan County, Va., and was the daughter of the late John H. and Princess “MeMe” Boyd Lester.

She had made her home in the Doran area most of her life and was a retired employee of Richlands Florists. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Richlands, Va., and was a graduate of Richlands High School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Cornett “T.C.” Owens; one daughter, Shirley Ball; three sons, Tommy Kirk Owens, Clifford Owens, and Leon Owens; one grandson, Steve Ball; and one great grandson, Thomas Chase Ball. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors are: two sons: Gary “Tubs” Owens and wife, Kelle, of Doran, Va., Tony Owens of Georgia; five grandchildren: Sharlene Ball, Suzanne Fountain, Penny Stinson, Kelly New, Stephanie “Steph” Ball; 11 great grandchildren; several special cousins and friends; and two very special caregivers: Stephanie “Steph” Ball and Sharon Ackerman.

Graveside services were conducted Sat., March 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va., with the Rev. Stephen Musick and Chris New officiating. Roger Lee Proffitt

Roger Lee Proffitt, age 68 of Cedar Bluff, Va., passed away Sun., March 22, 2009 at his home. Born Jan. 19, 1941 in Tazewell County, Va., he was the son of the late Marvin Proffitt, Sr. and Vinia (Agnes) Byrd Proffitt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Davis Proffitt; two brothers, Marvin Proffitt, Jr. and Donnie (Fred) Proffitt; and one sister, Hazel Shelton.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Brenda Absher Proffitt; three sons, Michael Proffitt and wife, Karla, Kenneth Proffitt and wife, Theresa, and David Proffitt and wife, Emma, all of Hickory, N.C.; step son, Charlie Cordle of Cedar Bluff; two sisters, Peggy Shook of Hickory, N.C. and Alice Reedy of Richlands; one brother, Larry Proffitt, Sr. and wife, Linda, of Doran; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thurs., March 26, 2009 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel at Cedar Bluff, Va., with Rev. Shane Breeding and Rev. Danny Houchins officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Singleton Funeral Service at Cedar Bluff, Va.

Ruby Childress Woosley

Ruby Childress Woosley, age 81, passed away Thurs., March 19, 2009 at the Bristol Regional hospital in Bristol, Tenn., following a brief illness.

She was born in Hellier, Ky., and was the daughter of the late Lemuel and Lucy Phipps Childress. Ruby was a graduate of Whitewood High School and from the Bluefield State Teachers College. She retired from the Tazewell County School System after teaching for 26 years. During her retirement, she loved quilting and produced many beautiful quilts. She was a member of the Community Heights Baptist Church of Cedar Bluff, Va. She was a long time member of the Steelsburg Homemakers Club and the Richlands Traditional Quilters.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Russell Childress, Lee Childress, Paul Childers and Harold Childers.

Those who remain to carry on her spirit are: her loving husband of 61 years, Peery Woosley of Richlands, Va.; her two daughters: Sue Hillman and husband, Randal Hillman, of Honaker, Va., Janet Woosley and husband, Jim Thompson, of Cedar Bluff, Va.; two grandchildren: Lucy Hillman and special friend, Daniel Redmond, of Knoxville, Tenn., Joseph Hillman and wife, Crystal Hillman, of Johnson City, Tenn.; a special great-grandson, Alex Hillman of Johnson City, Tenn.; a brother, Jack Childers of Wabash, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Thelma Childers of Jewell Ridge, Va.; many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends also survive her.

Funeral services for Ruby Woosley were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Sun., March 22, 2009 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Bill Keele officiating. Pallbearers were Don Childress, Jim Childress, Jerry Childers, Jody Woosley, Tom Keene and Jessie Boyd. Honorary pallbearers were the Richlands Traditional Quilters, Sam and Kathy Barnett, Ray and Faye Ryan. Interment followed at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Va. Friends called on Sat. evening from 6-9 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va.
