Operation Dry Water enforcing boating under the influence laws, educating boaters

The name of the operation might be a bit of an oxymoron – Operation Dry Water – but it makes sense once one sees how seriously the officers address boating under the influence of alcohol.

“Drinking and operating boats [creates] a serious conflict,” said Rick Salyers, a senior conservation police officer for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. “The same amount of intoxication on water as on the shore has a three times more detrimental effect.”
