House subcommittee kills Kilgore’s gas royalties bill

At least one person is thrilled that a Virginia General Assembly subcommittee seems to have derailed state Delegate Terry Kilgore’s attempt to empty escrow accounts holding at least $30 million that are now the subject of a series of federal class-action lawsuits.

“It was going to destroy everything we’ve been fighting for,” said regional landowner Jamie Hale, a plaintiff who has battled a pair of energy companies in U.S. District Court in Abingdon for more than three years.
