BRISTOL , Va. — In order for the Mountain Empire to put on a vibrant show this fall, cooler temperatures are needed to help break down the pigment of the leaves, according to a national weather forecaster.

But AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Bob Smerbeck said current forecast models through November have above-normal temperatures and rainfall, which he says could set the colors back by a few days or a few weeks, depending on how the weather pattern develops.
