Overcrowding at Bristol, Va., Elementary Schools Parents hear rezoning options

BRISTOL, Va. — Parents of Washington Lee Elementary students agreed Thursday they welcome any change to alleviate overcrowding but seemed to favor a plan that would affect about a fourth of all city elementary students.

About 50 people turned out to learn more about School Board proposals to revise district lines for its four elementary schools. It was the first of four such meetings scheduled in upcoming weeks. Washington Lee has more than 260 students enrolled in space designed for 250, while more than 70 other students who live in that zone currently attend classes at other schools.
