Too much alcohol and a fight between brothers led to the jailing of two men, who were arrested after separate New Year’s Day stabbings in Marion, Va., police said.

The first incident happened around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, when officers arriving at an apartment complex on Hume Place found that Jeremiah Alexander Morris, 22, had been stabbed twice in the chest, said Marion Police Chief Michael Roberts. Another man, Francis John Maguire, 35, of First Street, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding. Neither man lived at the apartment where the stabbing took place, although Morris lived at the complex, Roberts said.
