The next phase of the U.S. Highway 460 connector, stretching between Kentucky and the Coalfields Expressway in Buchanan County, has the green light to move forward, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell announced Thursday.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board authorized Virginia Department of Transportation Commissioner Greg Whirley to award a $108 million design-build contract with Rapoca Energy for construction of the six-mile stretch to rough grade, according to a written statement from the governor's office.
