RICHLANDS, Va. — A Tazewell County man is in jail on felony charges following an early morning robbery at the Three Way Fast Break Exxon, police said.
Gas station employees told investigators that a masked man with a handgun came into the store at 3:40 a.m. Thursday and demanded money from the register. The employees turned the money over — the amount was not disclosed — and the man ran away.
No one was harmed in the incident, police said.
Shortly after the robbery, the Virginia State Police, Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, Cedar Bluff Police Department and a tracking dog and handler from the Virginia Department of Corrections began searching for the suspect.
A few hours later, police said, a man matching the description of the suspect in the robbery was seen walking in the Doran Bottom area of Tazewell County. When the man saw the police officers, he headed into the woods.
When officers caught up to him, they found a black trash bag filled with cash equal to the amount stolen in the robbery. The man was later identified as Terry Anthony Robinett.
Now being held in the Tazewell County Regional Jail, Robinett, 29, has been charged with felony burglary and felony robbery.
