Improvements to the Exit 14 interchange in Abingdon, to the tune of $44 million, and $10 million in design costs for the Coalfields Expressway are among the projects included in the $13.1 billion six-year transportation plan the Virginia Department of Transportation unveiled today. Of that total, $9.9 billion is earmarked for highway construction.

Transportation officials will outline the plan during a series of public meetings throughout the state next week. The Bristol District meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites, at Exit 7 in Bristol, Va.
