A new Roanoke College poll released this morning (Tuesday), finds former Republican governor and senator George Allen with a big lead over former Democratic governor Tim Kaine.
In a hypothetical matchup between the former governors, the poll finds Allen with an eight percentage point lead over Kaine 45%-37%. That's a five point increase from Roanoke College's poll last September, which found Allen with a three point lead.
The poll includes interviews with 607 people who live in Virginia, and was conducted between February 13-26th. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
A breakdown of the poll finds Allen leads among people who identified themselves as independents 43%-38%. However, those who were identified as 'ideological moderates' sided with Kaine 50%-33%.
Both candidates tied among women 40%-40%, and Allen leads among men 49%-33%.
