Search Continues in Smyth Slaying: Family and Friends Say Suspect 'Good Guy'

SALTVILLE, Va. – Friends and neighbors of Jason Scott Betts, shocked by allegations that he killed one person and injured three others, said he was a good person with very good manners. But letters written by Betts’ probation officer paint a very different picture: one of a lazy, deceptive individual who refused to keep his word or a job.

Authorities are still searching for Betts, whom they believe is headed south. He is charged with murder, three counts of malicious wounding and breaking and entering.
